Service Learning: Project Reach
Prairie State College was one of eight distinct community colleges to receive a grant from the American Association of Community Colleges to create inclusive service learning opportunities for students with disabilities.
Along with faculty participation, the Label us Able student organizations plan and implement activities, with the help of Student Life.
Some activities that have included students with disabilities are:
- United Way Fundraising Annual event
- Fashion shows
- Walk of Hope
- Relay for Life
- Phi Theta Kappa service projects
- Black Student Union events and service projects
- All Latin Alliance service projects
- Label us Able events and service projects
The Center offers space on PSC's campus to four community-based organizations:
- The Center for Multi-Cultural Communities (formerly Healing Racism Chicago Southland)
- Diversity Dinners
- Unity Coalition Southland
- National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI)
The purpose of the Center is to connect these organizations with our students, faculty and staff and provide volunteer opportunities for students and employees who want to make a difference in their community.
