The goals of SL/MA are to:

  • increase access and opportunity for students of color

  • promote assistance to attain a college degree
  • facilitate successful transfer to a four-year institution
  • connect students to meaningful service experiences in the community

In addition to forming partnerships with other departments on campus to co-sponsor activities, MSA has specific programmatic initiatives, which include:

  • tours to four-year colleges and universities
  • referrals to academic support services
  • articulation/advising information
  • collaboration on-campus: Access Program for Ford Heights residents, Protégé Program
  • provide contacts to four-year representatives
  • admissions applications
  • review/evaluate academic record
  • new student College orientation
  • development of student academic plan
  • Early Alert (warning) services to Access Program participants
  • assist with completing financial aid application and electronic FAFSA online
  • cultural programming
  • COMPASS Assessment Test interpretation
  • bilingual assistance in college exploration (English/Spanish)
  • pre-enrollment advising

The Student Life & Multicultural Affairs Center (SL/MA) offers programs and services designed to recruit, retain and promote degree completion of students of color. However, services are available to ALL PSC students but with an emphasis on students of color.

SL/MA takes an active role in promoting respect for diversity and exploration of learning from the myriad of cultures that our increasingly diverse student presents. SL/MA works to foster a community in which the reality of cultural diversity is recognized and celebrated.

In collaboration with the Student Government Association, SL/MA actively support student organizations such as the Black Student Union and the All Latin Alliance. SL/MA assists student organizations to coordinate educational, cultural and social activities as well as offers guidance on issues related to diversity.
