Constitution (pdf)

Preamble:
This constitution establishes the math club as a student organization at Prairie State College, subject to approval by the Student Government Association. The purposes of this club are: promotion of mathematical reasoning and how it applies to our daily life, illumination of math as a fun subject and above all, education on the importance of math.

Article I: Name
The name of this student organization shall be Prairie State College Math Club.

Article II: Membership Requirements
The membership of this organization shall consist of the following:

1. Any student at Prairie State College provided he/she is currently enrolled as a student of Prairie State College in a degree seeking program.
2. Any student at Prairie State College provided he/she is in good standing with the school. Student must have and maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative point standing on a 4.0 scale.

Article III: Membership Structure

1. The PSC Math Club Board Committee shall consist of the officers of the President, the Vice-President, Director of Applications, the Treasurer, the Secretary, and Club representative.

Article IV: Powers and Functions of the Executive Board

1. President:
The President of the Math Club shall:

a. Preside over all meetings
b. Be elected into office by a majority vote of a quorum of members present at the annual election meeting.
c. Serve as facilitator for the planning of activities and events, in accordance with the Purpose of the Math Club, as enumerated in the Preamble.
d. This constitution may be amended by a two-thirds majority vote of membership. Amendments should be presented to the Executive Board for approval before they may be submitted to the organization for a vote.
e. Be replaced by the Vice-President if two-thirds (b) of all voting members of the Math Club call for the President's impeachment or if the President becomes unable to perform the duties associated with that office.

2. Vice-President:
The Vice-President of the Math Club shall:
a. Undertake any duties the President is not able to fulfill in the President's role as facilitator or representative.
b. In the absence of the President, serve as acting President
c. Be the runner-up (candidate who gets the second highest number of votes) in the election for President.
d. Be replaced by a Presidential appointee if two-thirds (b) of all voting members of the Math Club call for the Vice-President's impeachment or if the Vice-President becomes unable to perform the duties associated with that office.

3. Director of Applications:
The Director of Applications of the Math Club shall:
a. Be able to analyze and interpret graphs and logistics.
b . Be accountable for ensuring overall project delivery, schedule and budget attainment.
c. Oversee, direct and monitor the performance of dedicated project teams.
d. Be fluent and well-equipped with the knowledge of applications.
e. Be familiar with application technologies including varying web applications.
f. Be expected to provide leadership insights to the rest of the Executive Board Members.

4. Secretary:
The Secretary of the Math Club shall:

a. Maintain all official records of the Math Club
b. Keep the members informed about all events and meetings sponsored by the Math Club.
c. Advertise publicly those events sponsored by the Math Club which are open to the community.
d. In the absence of President or Vice-President, serve as acting President.
e. Be elected into office by a majority vote of a quorum of members present at the annual election meeting.
f. Be replaced by a Presidential appointee if two-thirds (b) of all voting members of the Math Club call for the Secretary's impeachment or if the Secretary becomes unable to perform the duties associated with that office.

5. Treasurer:
The Treasurer of the Math Club shall:
a. Be responsible for the stewardship of all moneys and debts associated with the Math Club, and inform the members about the financial status of the Math Club when called to do so.
b. Maintain complete and accurate records of all monetary flows, realizing that these records may be examined on demand by any officer or member.
c. Be replaced by a Presidential appointee if two-thirds (b) of all voting members of the Math Club call for the Treasurer's impeachment or if the Treasurer becomes unable to perform the duties associated with that office.

6. Club Representative:
The Club representative shall serve as representative to the Math Club and advise the Math Club in all aspects of its operation. It is beneficial, but not required, that the representative knows how to solve math problems fluently. The Math Club representative should, if possible, attend all meetings and events of the Math Club and chaperone travels.

Article V: Voting and Elections
Section A. A quorum shall consist of at least half of active members of Math Club
Section B. All votes, unless specified otherwise, shall be passed by a majority of a quorum of the active general membership.
Section C. Nominations will be taken near the end of the Spring Term for the next school year. The first meeting in the fall Academic semester shall be held for the purpose of holding elections. Nominees will be given a maximum of five (5) minutes to present a speech to the general membership explaining their reasons behind running for office, qualifications, goals and all other applicable information. After all speeches are completed, a quorum ofthe active general membership (excluding nominees) will vote by raising hands. The nominees will not be present when their position is being voted on. The nominees receiving the greatest number of votes will win the office. In the case of a tie, the quorum of the membership will vote again, taking only those candidates involved in the tie into consideration. The elections will be held in ascending order. The offices will be voted on and decided in the following order: the President, the Vice-President, Director of Applications, the Secretary, the Treasurer, and the Club Representative.
Section D All six of the Math Club Officers listed in Article IV shall serve a term of one (1) year, and elections shall be held during the first regular meeting of the Math Club in the fall semester of each Academic Year. The new officers shall assume their roles immediately after being elected.

Article VI Members in Good Standing

Officers and members should be in attendance at every meeting unless prior notification of absence is given.

Article VII: Vacancies

A vacancy is created when a member submits a letter of resignation or when an officer is unable to perform duties associated with that office or impeached.

Article VIII: Impeachment

Though it is not frequent, on occasion, a situation arises when impeachment is necessary. In general, when an event occurs which warrants an individual to leave a position, they should be encouraged to resign. Impeachment will be finalized by the voting of two-thirds active members of the Math Club.

Article IX: Resolution of Conflict

In the case of any conflict or quarrel against each other, members of the Math Club are to consult the President and the Vice-President for resolution.

In the case of conflict or quarrel with any ofthe Executive board Members, the candidates involved must bring the issue to the rest of the Executive Board Members. Both parties have to be present for a decision to be made. This decision will be made by 2/3 votes of the rest of the Executive Board Members.
