POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for managing and maintaining the College Local Area Network (LAN), making sure the LAN is tuned for optimum performance, delivering required information to end-users and interacting properly with Wide Area Networks (WANs).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Installs and maintains interoperability of all servers utilizing various OS including, but not limited to: Windows, Linux, and Unix.
  2. Installs hardware and software for LAN, WAN, and servers.
  3. Maintains operability of firewalls, appliances, and other network attached equipment.
  4. Analyzes LAN and WAN hardware and software for errors and takes corrective measures.
  5. Monitors all WAN network access for interoperability and bandwidth.
  6. Assists in the recommendation for purchase of LAN, WAN, and server hardware and software.
  7. Writes network programs to produce designated output, and creates backend scripts for the website.
  8. Implements and maintains virus protection for LAN and WAN.
  9. Implements and maintains high network and Internet security for the LAN and WAN.
  10. Creates and maintains network user and e- mail accounts.
  11. Implements and maintains authentication for the LAN and WAN user accounts.
  12. Develops and maintains diagrams, forms, and procedural documentation as required for server, network, and security support.
  13. Maintains appropriate back-up and recovery programs and procedures for all critical data.
  14. Provides LAN/WAN and server support to off-campus sites.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Keeps up-to-date on industry trends and abreast of latest software updates and network programs to assist in the troubleshooting and correction of errors.
  2. Applies logic and critical thinking to the process of monitoring and interpreting LAN and WAN analysis.
  3. Performs other duties as assigned consistent with the role of this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent college coursework.
  2. Four years of job-related experience, this includes administrative experience with Microsoft Windows networks.
  3. Working knowledge of integrating microcomputer software into the network environment, including but not limited to: word processing, spreadsheets, databases and utilities.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently after initial instructions with high degree of accuracy.
  5. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  7. Possess and demonstrate excellent LAN/WAN troubleshooting skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Microsoft Network Certification, CISCO or HP Certification, and RedHat Certification.
  2. Additional experience working with Unix, Linux and, other network operating systems.
  3. A+ Certification.
  4. Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or Computer Science.
