POSITION SUMMARY:
The Information Technology (IT) Trainer is responsible for coordinating training for faculty and staff by developing and teaching software classes in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox and Access. The IT Trainer will also learn, understand and train various departments on Datatel Colleague software. The IT Trainer will develop, write and maintain training documentation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Confer with administrators, managers, faculty and staff to determine technical training needs.
- Schedule and deliver classes, based on availability of classrooms, equipment, and resources.
- Design technical courses and develop training guides, including outline, text, and handouts as appropriate.
- Coordinate the development and delivery of training for the faculty with the Instructional Designer.
- Work with the Executive Director of Information Technology Resources to identify, develop and present appropriate IT professional development topics to ITR staff members.
- Develop and conduct training in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, IE, Firefox and Access. Develop and conduct training on Datatel Colleague software. Support training for programs, mandates, and regulatory obligations such as security awareness.
- Assist users one-on-one for specific training, as needed, and coordinate and assist users as requested by the ITR Help Desk.
- Coordinate with the Help Desk, ITR staff and the Change Management Committee to address training needs for new software releases, upgrades and/or new products.
- Maintain appropriate training documentation.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs other duties as assigned consistent with the role of this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Communications or a related field.
- Two years experience in a training/education environment as a technical trainer/instructor.
- Demonstrated excellent knowledge of computer terms and in-depth knowledge of MS Office products, e-mail, and web browsers.
- Demonstrated excellent writing, editing, time management and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively present in front of small to medium-sized groups for extended periods of time.
- Strong critical thinking skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Demonstrated strong planning, organization and problem solving skills.
- Communicates ideas in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in written form.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Education, English, Communications or a related field.
- Five years experience in a training/education environment as a technical trainer/instructor.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience training on Datatel Colleague software.
- Possess Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS) certification.
