POSITION SUMMARY:

The Health Promotion Assistant will support the department of Student Life and Multicultural Affairs with coordinating and implementing health education programming and workshops.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assists in providing prevention/educational seminars to students and campus groups with a focus on sexual harassment, domestic violence, student conduct, smoke-free living, and alcohol and drug awareness policies.
  2. Serves as the executive assistant on the PSC Prevention Advisory Committee, and coordinates such meetings.
  3. Attends prevention conferences and workshops to gain valuable information.
  4. Develops creative marketing strategies to inform students of the issues and resources.
  5. Develops and implements events related to AIDS awareness, breast cancer, etc., in collaboration with student organizations and the community.
  6. Serves as the primary contact for Relay for Life and Walk of Hope.
  7. Collaborates with community partners to develop activities which enhance awareness of their services.
  8. Coordinates and implements a health fair during the fall semester to introduce community services to the PSC student body.
  9. Develops health-related programs targeted to special populations, such as students with disabilities.
  10. Advises and trains the peer educator group, and coordinates programs related to the group.
  11. Assists the Office of Student Life and Multicultural Affairs with a variety of campus-wide programs.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Compiles, prepares and submits a variety of related records, reports and billings.
  2. Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the department, consistent with the role of this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, human services, or related field.
  2. One year full-time or part-time experience in student leadership program development within a Student Activities/College environment, or a combination of two years of related volunteer and work experience.
  3. Knowledge of prevention programming and issues.
  4. Demonstrated experience in project and task-management.
  5. Experience in general program management and program development.
  6. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population of college and community groups.
  8. Ability to function independently and as a member of a team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Two years of experience in advising student organizations in a college or university setting.
  2. Bilingual in English and Spanish.
