Campus and Public Safety Officer (Part-time)

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Under general supervision, performs duties to maintain the security and safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors at Prairie State College and to safeguard property of the College and its community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school degree/completion or equivalent.
- Two years work experience in law enforcement, public safety, security or corrections.
- Current Illinois (PERC) Permanent Employee Registration Card, or completion of 20-hour unarmed security course, of an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
- Valid Illinois driver’s license with a record free of three moving violation convictions in a 12 month period.
- Personal history free of criminal conviction(s) which legally precludes employment in a position of trust.
- Demonstrated oral, written and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic criminal law.
- Valid CPR certification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s degree in criminal justice, police science or other related field.
- Completion of EMT certification.
- Completion of Illinois Mandatory Training Act Certification.
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic Illinois criminal law and procedure via documented public safety training programs/certification/coursework in criminal law.
- Experience dealing with a diverse population.
STATUS OF POSITION:
Part-Time, Campus & Public Safety Support Staff.
HOURS TO BE WORKED:
19 hours per week; hours will vary according to staffing needs.
SALARY:
Support Band, Level B. - $8.00 per hour.
