How do I apply for one of these positions?

Contact the faculty and/or deans listed below each position. Prospective candidates should be prepared to provide a resume and unofficial copy of their transcripts (undergraduate and graduate). Those who are hired will be required to provide official transcripts.

How much will I be paid?

Adjunct faculty members at PSC are paid by the number of hours they are in the classroom (contact hours). For example, a person who is hired to teach English 101, a 3 credit hour class that meets three hours a week, will be paid $1,548 per semester. In some courses, the number of contact hours exceeds the credit hours, e.g., science courses or other courses with a laboratory component. Adjunct faculty are paid for the number of contact hours. For example, though Biology 111 is a 4 credit hour course, it meets 6 hours a week and adjunct faculty are paid for 6 contact hours or $3,096 per semester.

Are there Any benefits provided to adjunct faculty?

Each semester they teach, adjunct faculty members are eligible to receive a tuition waiver for one college credit course. Spouses and legal dependents of adjunct faculty members are eligible to receive a 50% tuition waiver for one college credit course. This waiver does not include any fees which may be specific to the course (e.g., lab fee for a science, art or computer course). In addition, adjunct faculty are granted a tuition waiver so they can enroll in a credit Physical Fitness course at the Prairie State College Fitness Center.

Do adjunct faculty members pay for social security benefits?

By state law, all faculty and staff in Illinois public colleges and universities—including adjunct faculty—are covered by the State University Retirement System (SURS); 8% of your pay will be deducted for SURS benefits. For more information on SURS, see www.surs.com. You will not pay for Social Security or earn Social Security credits for your work at PSC.

Are child care services available for my child during the time I am teaching?

Prairie State College has a state of the art Children's Learning Center, which provides excellent care for children of students and staff. Children ages 24 months to 12 years may be enrolled on a regular hourly or daily basis during the daytime. In the evening, services are open to children ages 2 (potty-trained) through 12. No drop in service is available. There is currently limited availability during the day, but greater availability in the evening. For more information, contact the Center by calling (708) 709-3728 or visit www.prairiestate.edu/ss/ss-clc.html.

We always welcome résumés from individuals who are interested in teaching part-time at Prairie State College. If an immediate opening is not available, we will keep your résumé in an active file for review if an appropriate position opens up.
