POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides leadership, guidance and assistance to Adult Education. Teaches within area(s) of responsibility in curricular and instructional matters; provides instruction in a discipline(s) or field(s) of knowledge as assigned and to provide services for guiding student study and improving learning. These services include formal classroom and laboratory settings, as well as informal situations in which students are advised and directed toward achievement of academic and career educational goals. This position reports to the Dean of Adult Education and Coordinates adjunct faculty as assigned by the Dean of Adult Education.
OVERALL PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBLIGATIONS:
Adult Education Faculty are expected to fulfill professional workload responsibilities as per the Faculty/Federation Board of Trustees Collective bargaining contract. The workload is defined as 15 hours per semester which includes 12 hours of classroom teaching and 3 release hours of program coordinating duties spring and fall.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Teaches adult basic education for 12 contact hours per semester, fall and spring.
- Serves as part of a team that recruits and recommends for hire adjunct faculty. Trains, mentors, and evaluates Adult Education adjunct faculty according to department and College guidelines.
- Assesses staff development needs through teacher observation and evaluation and provides appropriate materials and professional training to ensure the continuing professional growth, development, and recognition of teaching faculty in the assigned area.
- Conducts continuous assessment and curricular review of Adult Education programs, writing and updating curriculum as needed to ensure programs are responsive to the needs of adult learners and comply with all state and federal requirements. Initiates requests for new courses.
- Works with Dean to plan the schedule of all classes/workshops offered for fall, spring, and summer semesters.
- Coordinates new faculty orientation program and conducts regularly scheduled faculty meetings.
- Selects and orders textbooks, materials and standardized testing materials for courses and workshops; assists all faculty with the development and improvement of instructional methods, materials, and resources.
- Attends scheduled staff, committee and task force meetings and other conferences and meetings pertaining to assigned specialty area.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Math, Technology, Adult Education, or Curriculum Design.
- Experience teaching Adult Basic Education students.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Computer competency.
- Ability to use technology to enhance teaching and learning.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience teaching Math and Technology at the community college level.
- Adult Education program administration, general administration, and/or program coordination experience.
- Experience in instructional and curriculum design and assessment of learning outcomes.
- Experience in transitioning students to post-secondary education.
- Graduate work beyond a Master’s degree.
- Bilingual- Spanish/English.
- Experience teaching and/or diagnosing students with learning disabilities.
