POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director is responsible for the oversight and coordination of student programming, leadership development, service learning programs, minority student affairs, transfer center, and management of the daily operations of College's information center. The Director will provide leadership for multi-cultural College initiatives and promote the personal, intellectual, and social development of students. This position reports to the Vice President of Student Affairs and has a direct supervisory relationship with unit support staff, grant employees, and student workers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Oversees the management of student life and all student programming including approval of contractual agreements.
  2. Plans, develops, implements, and promotes opportunities for student leadership, volunteerism and service learning initiatives.
  3. Provides direction and resources in collaborating with faculty and staff to create and enhance programs and services for the office of Minority Student Affairs.
  4. Provides direction to foster student-centered learning. Serves as an advocate for students and as a mentor in developing student leadership.
  5. Serves as a minority student advocate on institutional issues and policies and procedures and as an advisor to minority student organizations.
  6. Serve as liaison for students in accessing institutional resources, i.e., admissions, registration, learning resources, Student Success Center, educational planning/career services, financial aid, and counseling providing on-going support.
  7. Develops, plans, and creates infrastructure development, documentation, community relations and implementation for service learning initiatives and related programming.
  8. Provides educational outreach to the residents of Ford Heights through special program initiatives.
  9. Coordinates campus-wide prevention programming with the assistance of student and community-based organizations.
  10. Plans and conducts minority student recruitment activities and serves as liaison to the minority community and its organizations and enhances the College’s image in the community.
  11. Maintains records and reports to monitor achievement.
  12. Maintains a collection of information and resources related to minority affairs.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Develops and maintains proper budgeting, fiscal and management resources, report preparation, and management within assigned area.
  2. Performs professional and administrative duties assigned, as appropriate, by the Vice President.
  3. Represents the College in state and national professional organizations and establishes linkages with local, regional, and state resources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's degree in student personnel, higher education administration, or related field is required.
  2. Seven years experience in higher education with at least 2 years at the community college level.
  3. Five years experience in administrative positions demonstrating increasing supervisory responsibility.
  4. Demonstrated experience in working well with a diverse staff and student population, faculty members, and academic administrators.
  5. Broad knowledge of student leadership development, programming, and service learning.
  6. Evidence of initiative and self-starting ability.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Evidence of successful experience in recruitment, retention, and transfer of students of color.
  2. Experience in successful grant writing.
  3. Experience in successful planning and implementation of fundraising/cultural activities.
  4. Strong communication skills, including bilingualism.
