Prairie State College, founded in 1958, is a community college located in Chicago Heights, a southern suburb of Chicago, Illinois. The College consists of 10 buildings situated on 137 acres. It also operates one satellite facility: PSC Matteson Area Center in Matteson, Illinois . The college employs over 500 people and has a student enrollment of more than 6,000. Campus and Public Safety

Campus safety and security is coordinated by the Department of Campus and Public Safety. It is located in Room 1100 of the main campus building. Satellite offices are also located in the Health and Technical building and the Adult Training & Outreach Center of the College.

Campus and Public Safety Officers are empowered by the college - as provided by 110 Illinois Compiled Statutes 805/3-42.1 - to enforce both criminal laws and college regulations. The main College campus and its satellite facility, are located in areas with highly trained police and fire departments, equipped to handle any emergency. If a major or serious crime occurs at any sponsored event, the police from the affected jurisdiction will be summoned.

The Department is staffed by 20 full- and part-time Officers operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All full-time Campus and Public Safety Officers have completed state approved training as provided by the Illinois Private Security Act of 1993.

The Department also operates in cooperation with other municipal, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
