The Department of Campus and Public Safety would like to make everyone aware of an incident that occurred on campus, Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at approximately 12:30 p.m. Two young men described as African American, both approximately 20 years of age approached the victim and offered him $5.00 if he would give them ride to the gas station. Suspect #1 was wearing a black, hooded, zip-up sweatshirt with a red and black ball cap. Suspect #2 was wearing a black hoodie with dark jeans. The victim agreed and let the two suspects into his vehicle. When they reached the gas station, one of the suspects produced a handgun and demanded money from the victim. They rifled through the victims center console and removed an undisclosed amount of cash and then fled through the alley behind the gas station. Fortunately the victim only lost his cash.
The lesson here is fairly basic, NEVER allow strangers into your vehicle, NEVER give them cash, and it is not a good idea to accept cash from strangers. There are ways to assist those who are legitimately in need without jeopardizing your own safety. Individuals who truly need assistance should be directed to the Campus and Public Safety office where a list of available resources is maintained on file.
If you have information concerning this incident please contact the Public Safety Department immediately. If you encounter similar situations in the future, make a note of the with the incident location, clothing and appearance and general description of the suspects. DIAL "0" or extension 3756. If you are unable to reach anyone dial 911 for the Chicago Heights police.

The Department of Campus and Public Safety would like to make everyone aware of an incident that occurred on campus recently. A man described as Hispanic, approx 5'7, and early to mid 30's attempted to solicit money and or a ride from several students on campus, he may be using the name David Rodriguez. This man has several different versions of a "sob story" but the base of each is that he is a Marine in the service. NONE of this information is factual and he has in fact been arrested and prosecuted for this offense in the past. Should you encounter this individual on campus please contact the Public Safety Department immediately with the location and a clothing and appearance description. DIAL "0" or extension 3756. If you are unable to reach anyone dial 911 for the Chicago Hts police.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone, DO NOT allow strangers into your vehicle or give them cash.
